Samsung Galaxy S9 vs iPhone X: dizzying comparison at exorbitant prices

Samsung Galaxy S9 vs iPhone X: Borderless display, powerful camera, and AR functionality: here is how the Galaxy S9 challenges iPhone X and which is the best top of the range of 2018 (so far).

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is official and after months of speculation and hypothesis finally, we can compare it with the iPhone X and find which of the two top of the range is better based on the objective characteristics and their needs. The challenge between the S9 and the iPhone 10 is almost natural, so much so that during the presentation of the new series Samsung has teased Apple saying that the "Galaxy S9 has a beautiful edge-to-edge infinity display without notch ".

The new Galaxy S9 and S9 + have not yet come out in the shops, and to touch them with hands we will have to wait till mid-March, while the iPhone X made its debut in stores in late 2017. On paper, we can see that it has not changed much compared to the Galaxy S8, especially on the design front. From this point of view, the differences between S9 and S8 are really minimal and you notice only on the back body and the screen that appears smoother. From the aesthetic point of view, we can say that the S9 is an S8 that has redone the look; while under the body we discover some more interesting news.

Samsung Galaxy S9 vs iPhone X

As we said, the design of the S9 resumes that of the S8 but adds an improvement by placing the fingerprint sensor under the camera, in a much more comfortable position. Both top of the range have the camera in a vertical configuration and, if the iPhone X weighs about 10 grams more than the S9, on the front of the size the top class Apple is instead slightly smaller and thinner of the competitor. From the point of view of materials, the point goes to the iPhone X, characterized by edges in stainless steel and resistant and lacquered glass. But the Galaxy S9 offers more choice of colors as we are available in blue, lilac and black (the silver version is only for the US), while the iPhone X is black or silver.

Display

Samsung is ahead of Apple in this field, but both offer excellent colors and contrast levels. The S9 boasts a brighter Infinity display AMOLED than the iPhone X, but the resolution is very similar.

Processor

The A11 CPU of the iPhone X is a beast, but the Galaxy S9 boasts the new Snapdragon 845 processor and is the first smartphone with on board the eight-core Qualcomm premium mobile chip (four at 2.8GHz and four at 1.7GHz). The A11 has six cores, two high-performance 2.35GHz cores, and four slower efficiency cores. The clock speed is not all, however, and we will not know how fast the Galaxy S9 or how the 845 behaves in speed compared to the A11 until it will be tested in the laboratory.

The camera

The Galaxy S9 does not have a dual rear camera like the iPhone X, and to have this feature you have to aim for the Galaxy S9 +. Its single-lense camera, however, is equipped with 12 MP and a dual focal aperture lens that can change from f / 1.5 to f / 2.4 depending on the shooting conditions; and thanks to the multi-frame processor it offers excellent performance in low light conditions, adapting to light just like the human eye. The Galaxy S9, like iPhone X, supports 4K, along with a super-slow motion video mode at 960fps. The front camera of the Galaxy S9, however, does not seem to have the same 3D scanning system present on the internal camera of the iPhone X (can also unlock the phone and the app), but is able to scan our face for animoji in augmented reality more "humanized".

The price

And here we are at the sore point: the price. The iPhone X is by far the most expensive smartphone from Apple and one of the most expensive around, considering that the price for the basic model of 64GB is almost $ 1,200. It is little less than the Samsung Galaxy S9, which costs $ 899 in the only available 64GB cut, while to reach the price of the iPhone X you have to watch the Galaxy S9 Plus 256GB, which is $ 1,099.

Conclusions

Samsung Galaxy S9 costs 899 $ at the launch, but as always is expected to fall in the coming months, even today you can find it in some online stores to a slightly smaller figure. The top of the range of Apple, iPhone X, was launched at 1189 $ but can be purchased online spending less. When we talk about such figures it is difficult to give as a winner the smartphone that costs less, given that 300 $ of difference on almost 1200 $ total expenditure are not so many, the situation will be slightly different with the passage of time given the natural devaluation of the top of Samsung range. iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S9 can challenge each other in a head to head compelling in every respect, probably one of the most important differences between the two is the autonomy in favor of the iPhone. As always in these comparisons between different operating systems, it is very important to also consider the personal preference for Android or iOS, a reason why electing a real winner would be impossible.
